Ashwood Support Services was created in April 2020 by current managing director Hannah Mouncey, who’s spent a decade working in various sectors across the mental health and disability support industry. She delivered clinical and community based mental health services as well as supported neurodiverse NDIS participants. Due to the rapidly increasing demand for specialist psychosocial services Hannah was delivering, founding Ashwood to specialise in psychosocial and neurodiversity informed support work was a natural progression.
Since this unplanned beginning in April 2020, Ashwood has grown to employ 35 support staff and counting. Initially operating in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Ashwood expanded to Hannah’s home state, the ACT, in 2021 and Geelong in 2024. In the time since this expansion, under the leadership Hannah and wonderful Lead Support Workers Kylie and Ness H, Ashwood has been able to continue to grow and assist people throughout Melbourne and the ACT lead the best lives they can.
Ashwood's philosophies have always centered around the idea that anything is possible, but to achieve your goals it takes consistency, hard work and the support of your whole village.
These were the lessons and key themes Hannah has taken away from her time as an elite athlete, having both played Australian Rules Football (in the VFL in Victoria) and Handball at a high level. Hannah has represented Australia in Handball since 2012 and continues to do so, having competed at the World Championships as well as at qualification events for the Olympic Games.
It is for this reason that Ashwood prides itself on never using a rotating roster, and matching the right support worker for a participant. Once that match has been found, the support worker will work with the participant at consistent days and times each week, ensuring they are able to achieve the best results possible by establishing a regular routine and an outstanding relationship, enabling the participant to feel as comfortable and safe with the support worker as can be.
It is also why we provide ourselves on collaborating with anyone the participant feels is a valued part of their village, be this family, friends or other health, allied health or support providers. By providing collaborative and holistic support we are able to ensure that we are making the most of the time we spend with participants to help them achieve their goals.
