A support worker is in simple terms, someone who can come to support you to achieve whatever your goals may be. This could be learning a new skill, doing things you enjoy, seeing new places and meeting new people. The types of things you can do with your support worker are limited only by your imagination!
You simply need to reach out to us online using the contact us section on our homepage and we will be in touch as soon as possible, usually within 24 hours. You can even let us know your preferred contact method, be it calling you, emailing or even texting you! Simply provide your preferred contact details, let us know how you would like us to get in touch and you will be hearing from us very soon.
As with all things in life, there are some limitations. Anything that is unsafe or illegal our support workers certainly can't do (or anything they might find uncomfortable), and your activities with them do need to be helping you achieve the goals you set in your NDIS plan, but otherwise the world is your oyster!
Absolutely not. At Ashwood we believe consistency is the key, and so once you've had a meet and greet with your potential support worker and if you decide it's a good fit, that person will see you at the same time on the same day each week. This is to provide peace of mind and to develop a relationship with your support worker, so they can best support and understand you and what you need.
Absolutely, and this is how almost everyone pays for their support worker! Support Workers are paid for out of your "core" budget in your NDIS plan. Currently, we can only work with plan managed or self managed NDIS participants.
We have support workers available in the ACT, Yass and Goulburn as well as all of the eastern and outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne. From November 2023, we will be providing support work to all areas of Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
You have 100% control over whether you choose to have someone as your support worker. In fact, you can even tell us beforehand whether you would prefer a male, female, non-binary, older or younger support worker. You can also tell us the type of person you would like by the interests you would like a support worker to share with you. If you decide you meet a support worker (or have had your support worker for a while) and you decide they aren't the best fit, that's ok too! You are always in 100% control.
When you contact us, we will chat about the type of person you’d like to work with, what your interests are, and what you’d like support with. Once we know these things, we look to our staff to find the best fit for you. If nobody who matches your hopes for a support worker is available, we do our best to hire someone who is! Once you’re matched with a support worker, we arrange a time for the two of you to meet, and make sure you’re happy to start working together.
Absolutely, our managing director Hannah is transgender and a number of our support workers are part of the rainbow community. For those that don't identify as LGBTQIA+, all are strong allies and very strong advocates for people being able to be exactly who they are.
Absolutely! We offer respite care from Friday to Sundays all year around in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Melbourne and Canberra. The reason we can't do the remaining weekdays is as we don't do a rotating roster, we don't have the staff availability to offer respite during the week as they have regular support shifts with participants booked in. We do however have more staff available on weekends.
